March 6th 2013 - Looking After the Planet, Locally

Create added value not only for market success but for the development of the territory and younger generations through sustainable activities focused on environmental and social responsibility. The business model of the Oleifici Mataluni becomes the protagonist of "Looking After the Planet, Locally" by the Institute of Higher Education"Enrico Fermi" Montesarchio (BN), under the program "Comenius" that promotes cooperation between schools in the European Union. Twelve local students and twelve students from Hungary, Spain,Turkey and Poland, will visit tomorrow the agro-industrial complex to test the initiatives guided by ethics and environmental compatibility.

"The environmental impact of production, far too often ignored - says Elena De Marco, Head of Criol Research Centre of the Oleifici Mataluni - is becoming instead an important element in the choice of a new generation of consumers. For this reason, sustainability is a responsibility that companies cannot avoid and that will pay off in economic terms. Investment in eco-innovation becomes an element of competitiveness”.

"By this visit we aim to verify de visu how an efficient industrial production can be pursued - says Angelo Melillo, professor and coordinator of the project team - with due regard to European legislation, which proposes a smart growth from the environmental point of view. Such experiences make students, our citizens of tomorrow, aware of the need of each single person’s commitment in helping preserve our planet".
